Meghan Markle's seven-word reaction to Prince William's gesture.
The ongoing tension between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Prince William and Kate Middleton,
the Prince and Princess of Wales, has been evident for quite some time. After Meghan's entry into royal life, the four of them were initially celebrated as the 'Fab Four,' yet they never formed a true bond.
High hopes that the quartet would modernize the monarchy and cultivate close friendships did not materialize. Instead, their differing personalities and life perspectives resulted in a strained relationship. A new book, Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography by Robert Jobson, highlights this animosity. Serialized in the Mail On Sunday, the book explores the escalating tensions following Harry and Meghan's wedding.
One notable incident involved William accusing Meghan of being 'rude' for discussing Kate’s hormones after the birth of Prince Louis. In response, Meghan firmly said, "Take your finger out of my face." Additionally, Harry's memoir Spare recounts several conflicts between Meghan and Kate during their early interactions, including a disagreement over bridesmaid dresses that left Meghan in tears and another moment where Kate reportedly grimaced at Meghan borrowing her lip gloss.
Harry also detailed a tense 'clear-the-air' meeting that took place shortly after the Sussexes’ honeymoon in 2018. During this discussion, the author notes that Kate held a leather sofa so tightly that her fingers turned white. The tension escalated when Kate requested an apology from Meghan regarding a comment about hormones and "baby brain" during pregnancy. Although Meghan apologized, explaining that such remarks are common among her friends, the situation intensified when Harry claims William "pointed a finger at Meg," accusing her of rudeness, and declaring, "Well, it's rude, Meghan. These things are not done here." Meghan's reply was direct: "If you don't mind, keep your finger out of my face." Despite the heated exchange, the meeting ended with apologies and a hug, which may have hinted at future conflicts.
Over time, the rift between William and Harry has broadened, especially following the allegations Harry made against his brother in Spare and the Netflix documentary series. In the series, Harry claimed that William left him feeling "terrified" after "screaming and shouting" during the Sandringham Summit. Moreover, in Spare, he alleges that a physical altercation occurred between them at Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace in 2019.
During Harry's recent visits to the UK, he has avoided meetings with William, and they did not sit together at the Coronation. According to Jobson's book, William feels that "there is no way back" when it comes to his relationship with Harry.
